Navy Wrestlers and Women’s Basketball Team are in Action This Weekend

Navy sports continues to be a great draw for families in the area. This weekend will feature an entertaining line up that will include both wrestling and basketball. Navy’s Midshipmen will take on the Army wrestlers on Friday night at 7:30 at Alumni Hall in Annapolis. The Navy men are coming off a 43-0 win over George Mason last week. For those not accustomed to watching collegiate wrestling it is vastly different from the highly choreographed “professional wrestling” seen on TV. The Army-Navy match promises to be a highly competitive and entertaining competition. Navy has a long history of outstanding wrestling teams.

This year’s Navy squad is led by Nicholas Gil at 141 pounds, who has a career record of 72-29; Zach Davis at 157 pounds, with a record of 100-50; and Jadaen Bernstein at 174 pounds with a record of 108-40.

Basketball

The Navy women’s basketball team hopes to continue its superb season when they play Boston University on Saturday at 5:30. The Navy women have a 20-4 record, with a 10-3 mark in the conference. The women lead the Patriot League conference in both offense and defense. The team is showing its dominance by winning its games by an average margin of just over 13 points per game. Taylor Dunham is leading the team in scoring with 15 points per game.

The Navy men’s team is now 17-10 after beating Army last weekend 68-59 in West Point, NY. This win turned the tables on the Army team which had beaten the Navy men’s team by 2 points in Annapolis in January. They will be closing out the regular season against Loyola at Alumni Hall on the Yard at 2 pm. Feb. 24
